You can find almost anything on the eBay Auction Website, including bargains on fishing gear. eBay is one big flea market. A search for fishing equipment on eBay shows (an example on one particular day) 64,147 fishing items for sale. A few are shown on the example eBay search results figure below.

Most items up for auction include clear pictures and accurate descriptions that include statements of condition. Can you believe these statements? Look at the seller's feedback rating. If the seller has sold hundreds of items on eBay, and his feedback rating is above 99% positive, you can be sure that he has been truthful, and that he has been shipping purchased items promptly and well packaged. The seller's feedback rating is displayed on the upper right-hand corner of his product description.

An example is shown on the figure to the right. This seller has shipped over 1,000 items, and has a feedback rating of 100% positive.

Items up for auction show the present highest bid price along with the date and time that the auction will end. Some items up for auction also have a "Buy-It-Now" price, which allows you to buy the item instantly rather than to bid and have to wait until the auction ends to see if you won. The Buy-it-now price is normally set a little higher than the minimum auction price stated.

Often sellers put items up for sale at extremely low prices, hoping that buyers will bid the price up much higher. Few or no bids means that whoever does bid will get a real bargain.

When you search for items on eBay, you search by category. In the example shown above, the category searched was "Sporting Goods/Fishing." This produced 64,147 items in the search result. That is too many items to sort through. You can further refine your search in many ways to home in on the item you are looking for. For example:
By searching "Sporting Goods/Fishing/Saltwater" (eBay's category) you may come up with 8,906 items in your search results. However, you can further narrow the results by adding "reels" (for example) to your search. Then your search would look like this: "Sporting Goods/Fishing/Saltwater/Reels" finding you only 3452 items this time. You can get even more specific about the type of reel to narrow down the search even further.
