The Martha's Vineyard Striped Bass and Bluefish Derby

The 2006 Martha's Vinyard Striped Bass and Bluefish Derby ran from Sept 15th to Oct. 15th.

Eighty nine striped bass were weighed in.
Derby Winners were; Category - Striped Bass:
Boat: David C. Hearn - 43.86 lbs.
Shore: Leo B. Lecuyer - 40.19 lbs.

The On The Water Magazine Striper Cup

The 2006 On The Water Striper Cup Tournament was held from May through September.

Tournament winners were:

From a boat: Lev Wlodyka, MA - 57.6 lbs.
From Shore: Geoff Turner, NJ - 48.1 lbs.
By Youth: Jordana Anderson, CT - 48.2 lbs.

Anglers of the year (based on 5 fish cumulative weight) were:
Boat Div.: Patrick Toomey, MA - 158.5 lbs.
Shore Div.: Gary DeCosta, MA - 237.6 lbs.

The On The Water Striper Cup was won by the Linesider Bass and Brew Club, MA.

Raffle winners at the Striper Cup Fest awards dinner included:
William Cary, who won a 2006 Grady-White boat.
Paul Sheffler, who won a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck.

Wal-Mart FLW Striper Series

In 2006 a new $1 million striped bass tournament circuit was initiated by FLW Outdoors. This circuit named the "Wal-Mart FLW Striper Series," featured 7 one day, $125,000 qualifying tournaments, plus a $150,000 three day championship.

The 2006 championship, and the $50,000 top prize, was won by Team Keephers captained by M. Fleisher.

2nd place was won by team Hydra-Sports, captained by P. Gootee II.

3rd place was won by team Right Hook, captained by S. Fisher.

2006 Montauk Surf Fishing Classic

This tournament took place from Sept.29th to Oct.1st.
Striped Bass Results:
1st Place - Gary Stephens - 22.58 lbs.
2nd Place - Warren Dennington - 21.64 lbs.
3rd Place - Mike Adamson - 20.80 lbs.
4th Place - John Wharry - 18.86 lbs.
5th Place - John Tartaro - 16.90 lbs.

2006 Long Island South Shore Surf Fishing Classic

This tournament took place from Oct.20 to Oct.22.
Striped Bass Results:
1st Place - Robert Markowski - 39.80 lbs.
2nd Place - Andy Richman - 36.60 lbs.
3rd Place - George Perez - 36.00 lbs.
4th Place - Charles Vollmer - 33.60 lbs.
5t Place - Joe Gallachio - 30.00 lbs.

Hi-Mar 40 Hour Striper Tournament

This tournament ran from Oct.13 to Oct.15.

The largest striped bass caught in this tournament was 29.3lbs. and was caught by Brian Rice on the Jersey Devil.
The 1st place boat was the Tyman captained by Chuck Many.
The winning weight for 2 fish was 25.3 and 27.4 = 52.7 lbs.

Long Beach Island Surf Fishing Tournament

The 52nd Annual Long Beach Island NJ Surf Fishing Tournament, ran from Oct. 7 thru Nov. 19, 2006.

The $1000 prize for the largest striped bass caught during the tournament was won by Larry Weidner. His striped bass weighed 42 pounds 10 ounces and was caught on bunker.

2006 NJ Governors Surf Fishing Tournament at Island Beach State Park

This tournament was held on Oct.1. Winners in the striped bass category were:
Men - David Salvagno with a 33¾ in. striped bass
Women - Debbie Burlingame with a 28½ in. striped bass

"The Fisherman" 2006 Dream Boat Fishing Challenge

This tournament ran from April 1st to Nov. 30th.
